Laykold Cup
The Laykold Cup was presented to the Petone Amateur Athletic and Cycle Club in 1928 by New Zealand Laykold Limited for a track cycling handicap race over five miles.

BACKGROUND AND HISTORY:
The Laykold Cup was first presented in 1928 and remains the most coveted prize in Wellington track cycling. In recent times it has evolved into a 10km bunch race comprising 30 laps of the Hataitai Velodrome with a carnival of supporting track cycling events. The Poneke Plate for women and Stayers Cup for masters men were also introduced.

Previous winners include Olympic bronze medallist Gary Anderson and four-time Commonwealth Games medallist Graeme Miller.

RIDE NOTES:
An afternoon of match sprints and Keirins at the Welly-drome for all grades, ages and abilities. Get on down for some short fast racing!

Please note: this is not a Speed League event, you’re riding for glory!
​
PROGRAMME:
1: Flying start 200m TT for seeding
Start on back straight, 2.5laps total with final 200m timed
​
2: Match Sprints!
Groups of four determined from TT, fastest four in group 1, next fastest four in group 2, etc.
Then for each group, where A was the fastest rider, B the second, etc:
Semi Finals – 2 laps, single heats
Semi 1: Rider A vs Rider D (where A was the fastest)
Semi 2: Rider B vs Rider C

Finals – 2 laps, single heats (may go to best of three depending on numbers)
Minor Final: loser semi 1 vs loser semi 2
Major Final: winner semi 1 vs winner semi 2

3: Keirins if anyone has the energy/ time!
5 lap heats of 5-7 riders, grouped according to TT
